James Carrick and Joanna McKenzie - Book 2

Detective Inspector James Carrick always makes a point of celebrating Burns Night but on this particular occasion is found unconscious at the wheel of his crashed car. With no support from his sergeant, Ingrams, or the DCI who merely imagine him to have been too drunk to remember that he was staying the night at the hotel it is left to Joanna Mackenzie to help him discover what happened that night.

While Carrick is fighting to clear his name a battered copse is found in the River Avon, that of local TV producer, Marvin Gilcrist. Gilcrist had lived life to the edge; a womaniser whose hard-hitting films stirred up controversy that were bound to have made him enemies. Joanna has to decide whether this includes former police detective Alan Terrington, exposed by Gilcrist in a film about a supposed miscarriage of justice or even what happened to Carrick.

In the course of her enquiries Joanna meets Patrick Gillard who is looking after his parents’ house while they are on holiday and he too is drawn into the investigation.
